Reflection on Managing Information Systems Class

When I initially registered for this class I had a totally different idea of what we would be doing. I envisioned direct application toward further development of my thesis. I am not sure that I knew exactly what that would entail. If the information did not directly relate to my thesis I expected that it would be information that I could utilize in the development of my own organization. I definitely was surprised on the first day of class.
On the first day of class I was skeptical about the usefulness of the information. Some of the work seemed to be things that I was already aware of. As we worked on projects as a class it did not seem difficult to do. However, when I got home to complete homework assignments I realized the reason why it was so easy in class. When the professor is guiding you through the process, it doesn't require you to think about how to resolve the problems. I found it difficult to utilize the help menus. It seemed like I could never get the answers that I needed to move the process forward.
In the end I did find the information from this class to be useful. I learned new ways to simplify large tasks and create an ongoing budget. I also learned ways to stop spending money at Staples on stationary and business cards that I can create and personalize myself. I do believe that this class would have been more beneficial earlier in my studies. As a final semester senior in the graduate program, I found it difficult to commit the time I would have liked to. The information was useful and ultimately I realized that when I become the executive of my own organization, much of the knowledge I gained from this class will be instrumental.
